Immigrant Voting Rights
Widely practiced during the first 150 years of U.S. history, the expansion of voting rights to noncitizens has been rediscovered and restored in a dozen communities across the country today. I conduct research about past and current immigrant voting laws and practices, and work with immigrant advocates to foster immigrant integration and government accountability. I was a founding member of the Coalition to Expand Voting Rights in New York City (2003-2016) and the Immigrant Voting Project (2006-9), and currently work with local stakeholders in the U.S. who are considering or implementing noncitizen voting laws.
Participatory Budgeting
I am on the North American Participatory Budgeting Research Board, which is convened by the Participatory Budgeting Project (PBP).
California Faculty Association (CFA)
I am the Chair of Political Action of the faculty union (CFA) at San Francisco State University.
